Hair Dye Tips! My Experience

If you’ve been watching me on YouTube or follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I’ve dyed my hair again!  I aimed for Mystic Violet* again, this time I think it came out much better!  So I thought I’d share the few tips I was given.

Now unfortunately the lighting is a bit different for the after picture, I’ve tried to get it as similar as possible so you can see the difference.  I have to say, I am really impressed with this dye.  It has picked up on all the different tones of my hair and this stops it looking like a single block colour.

Hard to beat a bit of a hair swosh! In person the after pictures are actually really very close to my hair colour, it’s a warm red toned purple on my hair, which I really quite like!

So the tips, I made sure to use 2 bottles of dye, I have a lot of hair and you want to make sure all of your hair is thoroughly saturated.  I got my other half to check that I had covered all of my hair, so if you have a friend, family or partner that is willing to don a pair of plastic gloves I would really recommend it.   Plus it gives them an excuse to do silly things with your hair (evidence below!).  Once my hair was fully saturated I wrapped my whole head with cling film, this keeps the dye wet and active, this basically allows the dye to work for longer and in turn give you a better result.  I also may have left it in longer by about 15minutes.   This is not recommended, I did it simply because the previous results weren’t the best, so I thought leaving it a wee bit longer wouldn’t do any harm.  Plus I didn’t have any bad reactions.  One tip I entirely forgot myself at the time, remove all the dye off your face sooner rather than later.  I got distracted chatting to husband and did not remove the dye when he was doing the back of my head.  It took some effort and a few face washes to remove all the staining.  Just use some micellar solution, or a toner and a cotton pad, it comes off fine – based on previous experience!

So that’s it, here’s a final close up with slightly better lighting.  Dam the lighting and early setting sun.

All in all I am really pleased with the outcome and I’ve had quite a few compliments on it already!  Not I just need to find the right brow product to match my hair!
