Actually, I Can!

Weight on Scales

I’ve some exciting news on the health & fitness front.  I did an update post back in March and explained my injury and my inability to exercise.  I have overall improved what I’ve been eating but I’ve not really been losing any weight, just maintained my weight.  Which is fine but I’m not happy at just over 10 stone 7 pounds, my body fits me better at the 10 stone mark.  I just feel heavy on my feet and none of my clothes fit me properly – I am refusing to buy bigger clothes, no way.  Then I saw a post on the blogilates instagram on the same day I got my exciting news and I felt inspired to share. The exciting news?

On Monday I was signed off by my physio to start training again, after 8 months of doing the physio exercises almost everyday – so that means I’m able to go a bit more full out in my gym and I can now dance without the worry of doing long term damage!  That’s also new, I have joined the gym again.  Now I am not the biggest fan of the gym, however I have to go at least twice a week.  So I’ve decided to figure out ways of enjoying it.  I do my full list of physio exercises – you might have seen some of these in previous vlogs and I’m setting myself goals to aim at and I’ve already started reaching a few of them!

I’ve also downloaded a HIIT app and an exercise app so I can build my own workouts with them.  After discussing it with my physio, I need to build strength and endurance/stamina.  Which means doing high resistance work to help with strength, the HIIT stuff should help with that.  The endurance work I’m still figuring out, that’s going to be lower intensity but for a longer period of time – I’ve a funny feeling that means lots of cycling in my future…I may have to find an alternative.

Something I’ve discovered in regards to my eating, I may actually be gluten intolerant.  I’ve been doing exclusion testing and swapped out our pasta etc and I no longer have the crippling cramps after a pasta dish, also when I cut out the bread, again no cramps!  So more investigating needed.  I also definitely have an issue with diary.  I decided to try greek yoghurt with fruit, which tasted amazing but within an hour I was in unbelievable pain from the cramps!  Not ideal at work and it only got worse throughout the day.   I stupidly tried it for a few days in case it was something else, nope, it was definitely the yoghurt.  Same thing with cottage cheese.  So I’m just knocking dairy on the head, I don’t consume very much of it anyway.

I’ve really gotten into my salads recently and I think now I have a goal to focus on, I’m better able to keep myself on track.  I was so miserable when I couldn’t dance or didn’t have any kind of end goal in mind, that I found it hard to make myself workout or to eat well.  What was the point?  So clearly I am a goal orientated person!  Anyone that knows me in person would’ve likely said that, but I sometimes forget.  I know I’m competitive but I thought I could just keep myself healthy without a particular goal.  It would appear not.

So I’m hoping over the next month I will see a difference in my weight, at least to lose a few pounds.  I will be rebuilding a lot of muscle, so I’m not sure how much weight loss I will see; as long as my clothes fit me better and I’m able to move better, I’ll be happy.

I just thought I’d share my excitement with you!  I’m not retiring from Irish dancing yet!!!  I never thought I would be this excited about getting back to the gym!  I’ve not done a juice fast as I mentioned in my previous post, I didn’t want to spend the money on a juicer.   I am pleased I’ve been figuring out my food better though and I’m getting better at avoiding foods & drinks that irritate my innards….now if I could get over my coffee issues I’d be even happier!  I’m thinking I need to try a soya latte…not sure how I feel about that.

So I’ve a question or two for you.  What are your favourite fitness apps?  Do you need a goal to keep moving?  How do you stay motivated on those days where you don’t want to get out of bed? Let’s share the knowledge and help each other out!  I know I’ll have days where I just don’t want to move.  I’ll let you know how I get on with the apps.

    1. Thank you! I must check out the Nike fitness app, I’ve heard great things about it. I was using MyFitnessPal for a while to record my eating, I just seem to get bored with it or forget to fill it in. I might try again 🙂 Definitely going to check out Fitness blender. Thanks for all the recommendations!
