I was delighted to be able to buy a few items when I was in Dublin, particularly some epic Catrice products – I can seriously see what the fuss is about with this brand, more on that later. Let’s start with the Nude Illusion foundation. I believe this retails for about €8/€9, but I can’t find a reseller in the UK to confirm that sadly. You get 30ml for it and it’s packaged up quite nicely in a frosted glass bottle, with a good pump.
What does the website say
“The Nude Illusion Make-up scores points as a light foundation with optimal mattifying coverage. Thanks to soft, light-reflecting pigments, the foundation provides a soft focus effect for a healthy glow. The formula is fabulous: moisturizing, longlasting and with protective UVA and UVB filters. The finish: flawless and natural.”
What do I think?
I’m not sure it’s a flawless finish, it’s only a light to medium coverage foundation, so it wont really cover any blemishes. You can see in the before and after photo that you can still see my freckles showing through and the odd blemish looking a bit red. I built up a second layer of the foundation on my chin to get a wee bit extra coverage. So I would say you can build up the coverage a wee bit before it starts looking cakey. I do think that this is a bit too yellow-toned for me, I have the shade 010 Nude Ivory. I’ll try out the 015 Nude Vanilla next time as it looked a bit more pink toned, hopefully it won’t be too dark! I do think this gives a natural finish though, which I prefer over a flawless finish!
I think it does mattify my skin a wee bit, not massively, but enough. It does wear well throughout the day, although it has mostly disappeared off my nose by about lunch – so about 5hours later. It does play well with other products, meaing I can easily touch it up thankfully – I have had issues with mattifying foundations becoming very dry & a nightmare to apply concealer over the top a few hours later. I’m not sure on the moisturising claims, I don’t have particularly dry skin and I haven’t really noticed any moisturising effect. It does cling to dry patches a wee bit, not massively though.
It has a thick, lotion consistency. It takes about a pump & a half to do my entire face. I prefer to apply this with a buffing brush but you can apply it with a damp sponge if you’d rather. Other benefits? It doesn’t sink into the fine lines around my eyes too much and although it does sink into the larger pores on my cheeks, it’s not particularly obvious! So great for those of us with finer lines or large pores!
Overall I’m really pleased with this foundation and I definitely recommend checking it out. Great foundation! You can see how I apply it in the review video below!
