I’m definitely going through a raspberry lip phase, it happens every summer. Plus it goes well with my new hair! I got one of the new DeLuxe Lip Lacquers from Collection in my Pegasus press day goody bag, I got the shade Raspberry Kisses. I also picked up a L’Oreal Sexy Balm in Adventure. Well it would have been rude not to try them out and give you a bit of a review!
L’Oreal Infallible Sexy Balm
Let’s start with the L’Oreal Infallible Sexy Balm*. There is a great amount of pigmentation with this and it does transfer to the lips. It feels comfortable on initial application and generally looks good – as you can see from the picture below. Sadly that’s about where the positive ends. It is a a bit difficult to apply neatly, thankfully at the minute there is still a nice point on the end. When that wears off I can imagine this becoming an unholy mess. Especially with it being so pigmented. A lip brush would be a must. Although it looks good to start with, it wears off quite quickly, I’m talking about within the hour and it leaves a distinct rim around the edge of the lips. Not good look. When I ate and drank, it disappeared even more quickly and even smeared a bit. Leaving a smudgy look at my lips. Again, not a good look. I tried blotting it down and putting on a second coat for the extra bounce, it had minimal effect. It is a wonderful vibrant colour, but I doubt I will reach for it too often as I’d worry about the mess.
Collection DeLuxe Lip Lacquer
I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with the Collection Lip Lacquer*. I initially thought this was a liquid lipstick, but it is most definitely a gloss. It’s a very high pigmented and very high shine. Again you can see from the pictures below. It applies well, although there is some dragging on the lips. The narrow doe-foot applicator makes it easy to get a good shape on application. There is great colour pay off and it wears very well. This is likely due to the staining – so as it wears off, it does so very evenly. My only bugbear is the stickiness. It is very sticky. Something I got over though as I tend to wear it smudged out, which makes it less sticky while still retaining a decent colour pay off. Plus I’ve not been wearing my hair down much as it looks better in a braid at the minute.
It’s also easy to reapply, although I don’t need to do it too often, it lasts for a few hours, even with eating and drinking. Bit of a win there for a lipgloss!
If I had to pick one, I would go for the Collection DeLuxe Lip Lacquer, even with the sticky problem – not something I thought I’d ever say! I’m even considering trying out a few more of the colours.
What are your favourite shades for the summer? Any products you’d recommend? I’d love to know, I’m in a phase of playing with all the new things.
