I’ve a few things I like to keep on hand when I’m getting ready for bed. Let’s talk about the non beauty essentials first.
My kindle! I’ve been inhaling all sorts of information lately, I’m currently reading “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How To Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World*” by Gary Vaynerchuk. Fascinating read and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I also keep a notepad and pencil or pen on hand. There is nothing worse than having things in your head and you are desperately trying to hold on to the thought and you can’t sleep. I always seem to come up with my ideas at night, my brain must relax enough to think of them! With a notepad on hand I can get them all out of my head and actually sleep. I have a mini torch – which I may have stolen from my husband… He put an orange plastic over the top. Why I hear you ask? Well because it’s a better shade of light and it stops my brain from staying awake! Very handy for those moments of inspiration or lying awake reading.
I’ve two lip products, the Lush lip scrub in Mint Julips and Meraki mint lip balm, clearly all about the mint! It’s a nice combo and when I’m consistent with the lip scrub, my lips stay in good shape! I love the lip balm, it does a great job of softening and healing my lips. It is stuffed with all sorts of natural ingredients like mandarin extract, Aloe Vera, Cacao Seed Butter, Jojoba oil, lanoline and vitamin E that are helping my lips. To be fair I should be using it during the day as it does have SPF15. Maybe it will migrate to my handbag. Now for the salves and moisturisers that I’ve been loving of late.
I’m a bit pants at using rich body butters after the shower, so I’ve started using them on my hands, elbows and knees at night. I’ve been loving The Body Shop body butter in British Rose*. It smells divine and incredibly rich, it works all sorts of magic on my dried up knuckles. There is supposed to be some light reflective properties with this body butter, but I’ve never noticed to be honest…although I am glow in the dark white, so I may not be able to tell the difference. On the rose theme I have the Rose & Co Rose Petal Salve. Another gem for tired, dry hands. This is meant for the lips, I find the rose scent a wee bit too strong to have right under my nose, so I just use it elsewhere.
On those evenings when my hands are exhausted – you know the days, you’ve scrubbed the house clean, sorted out your online life, maybe squeezed in a swim. Or just ended up washing your hands a ridiculous amount of times. So your hands are in pieces by the end. I’ve been using the Weleda Skin Food, this has extracts of viola tricolor, calendula and chamomile, thick base of oils and beeswax. So it can feel a bit greasy when you first apply it. Give it a good rub in and leave it. Once it has sunk in, you skin will feel fabulous.
As for my watch and rings, I can’t sleep wearing jewellery. So it all lives there until the morning. I’m sure one day I’ll be grand wearing rings. It’s just easier to take them off while I moisturise my hands!
