The Creperie Gluten Free Restaurant

GFOnly

I recently got invited along to The Creperie to try out their offerings!  I was delighted, the one good thing about having to go as gluten free as possible – trying out new places to eat.  Simon came along, we don’t get to hang out nearly enough and I thought it would be interesting to have a non gluten free perspective.  The Creperie is the only fully gluten free restaurant in Brighton, the fact that it focuses on crepes and waffles makes me incredibly happy.  This is one food I do miss out on eating, I can have some gluten, but that much would just leave me ill.  They do sweet and savoury options.  Myself and Simon both went for savoury but with the added bonus of milkshakes!

I ordered the Mushroom Medley, this was stuffed with mixed mushrooms, crème fraîche, white wine, dill & fresh spinach leaves, my mouth is watering at the thought of it again.  Simon went with the French Blue.  His was positively rammed with roquefort cheese, sun-blushed tomatoes, fresh spinach leaves & pine nuts.  Simon actually hit his cheese limit for once, I don’t think that has happened before in the 10years we’ve been together!  Although I’m not altogether surprised, I mean look how stuffed they were.

I absolutely loved mine.  I was nervous that the crepe was going to taste “funny”, I’m pleased to say I was wrong!  It was delicious and surprisingly filling.  The blend of flavours complimented each other wonderfully and were a great addition to the crepe.  Simon’s was also very tasty, the tomatoes cut the cheese really nicely.  He thoroughly enjoyed his and as a non-gluten-free person, he was more than happy to eat there.  So if you are looking for somewhere to eat that works for you and that your non-gluten-free friends and family will enjoy, this is a marvellous option.

I should highlight the milkshakes.  My good god, they were magnificent.  They are made from two scoops of ice cream and you get to select the flavours from the ice creams on offer.  I went with banana and pistachio, Simon went for toffee popcorn.  They were so thick, decadent and so very tasty, I think it was the perfect accompaniment to our meal.  It helped to balance out my healthy-ish option!

We both enjoyed the atmosphere and the interiors.  It has a perfect seaside, quirky vibe with very friendly staff.  I could easily have spent much longer just sitting chatting.  They have made excellent use of the space, it feels wonderfully light and airy.  I did love the hanging utensils, not to mention the art on the walls.  They all just left me with a big smile on my face.

I cannot recommend The Creperie enough, I will definitely be back.  It’s very budget friendly with a great selection of crepes and waffles.  I will be back to try a sweet waffle the next time…maybe with a milkshake too.  Have you ever tried a buckwheat crepe?  Or gluten free waffles?  I think you should check our their menu – which should I try next??

  1. I’ve been here before and loved it! I was like you, I thought they’d taste weird, but I was pleasantly surprised. In fact it was so filling that I couldn’t even finish mine!! And that’s a rare occasion!!
