In case you missed it, I’m back to being fully mermaid again! I know, pretty exciting right. If you interested in how I create my unicorn, you can read “How I create my mermaid/unicorn hair” post. So now I’ve my glorious locks back in play, how on earth do I care for my hair and make my colour last as long as possible?
Ultimate Colour Repair
I am a recent convert to Paul Mitchell, having only really discovered their range at the Jingle Mingle Brighton event which was great fun. They clearly knew I dyed my hair frequently, so tailored my goody bag to this. I generally use the Ultimate Colour Repair Shampoo* and Conditioner* about twice a week.
A little bit about these products
Specially formulated with the Quinoa Color Repair complex, which penetrates deep into hair to create a protective barrier and preserve colour-treated hair, leaving it vibrant and healthy-looking. An effective blend of shea butter, jojoba and soybean oil soften hair and enhance shine, whilst nourishing vitamins lock in moisture. The lightweight conditioner contains powerful antioxidants to shield hair from exposure to harmful UV rays, environmental aggressors and fading of colour.
I can confirm that my hair always feels incredibly soft and nourished after using this duo. I definitely think it aids in making my colour last that bit longer. I do use temporary colours on the end, so these still fade after a few weeks, but they do seem to last longer than they used to.
I was given these as part of an Ultimate Colour Repair Gift Set which also contained a Triple Rescue spray. I used this a few times and if I’m honest I’m in two minds. Some days it seemed to have a wonderful impact on my hair, other days I didn’t notice much of a difference! It was a nice thing to add to my hair routine when I fancied the extra effort. Only use a minimal amount and ensure you spray it in the lengths to prevent your hair looking greasy…I may have made this mistake. A quick look at what it aims to do:
A non-greasy spray developed to preserve colour-treated hair, whilst enhancing shine and manageability. With a dual-phase formula and UV protection, the spray shields coloured hair from environmental stresses and excessive heat damage that can lead to dull, faded locks. It’s Quinoa Color Repair complex intensely conditions hair to leave it vibrant, healthy-looking and full of moisture.
Scalp Care, Anti-thinning
I was also given this Shampoo, Condition and Tonic set, which is a new release. I don’t suffer from hair thinning thankfully, however, I do thoroughly enjoy the shampoo and conditioner. The scent alone is really glorious, it reminds me of a spa, it has Kakadu plum, pea peptides, clover flower, turmeric and ginseng. Together they all smell wonderful, even more so when my bathroom fills with steam.
About these products
Tea Tree Scalp Care is a preventative system that gently and naturally helps to slow down the process of hair thinning. Ideal for men and women, this colour-safe daily regimen is infused with our exclusive Regeniplex botanical blend to promote optimal scalp health and encourage healthy, thicker hair. Step One helps block the shrinking hair follicles. Step Two helps expand the follicle and strengthen the hair shaft. Step Three helps alter the growth pattern.
I can’t speak to the benefits for hair thinning as mentioned, however, it does leave my hair looking much fuller and thicker. I also feel it gives my hair a thorough clean, removing any build-up that may have occurred from using my plethora of hair care products. The fact that it’s colour-safe means I don’t have to worry about it washing out my colour. I did attempt to use the treatment, just to test it out. This was not a good idea and it ended up in my hair, leaving an odd residue. If you do have thinning patches, make sure you separate your hair properly to get in at the root to use this spray.
So these are the products I use to help maintain my hair. I the L’Avoly The Special One 10in1 for the majority of the aftercare, you can read more about that in my December Favourites post.
