I’ve had Clarins gift vouchers gathering dust for a wee while, so I decided to splurge out on a few makeup bits. First for review is the Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream. This retails at £30 for 45ml and has SPF25. There are only 3 shades available, I have the lightest shade, 01 Fair. I have mostly normal skin with some oiliness down the centre. I also have the odd dry patch, just to spice things up!
As you can see from the swatch below, it does look a tad dark for me, however once applied, it doesn’t show as dark on the skin. I always bring it down my neck, just to make sure. It has quite a thick consistency, so I find it best to warm it up and apply it with my fingers. I found it much easier to spread the cream and still retain light coverage. It was a lot harder to apply it with a brush and with a sponge, I ended up losing the light coverage it provides.
Below is a before and after, applied with my fingers. As you can see, it does help to even out my skin, although concealer is needed for any blemishes or dark circles under the eyes. This doesn’t build much more, so if you are looking for medium to high coverage, this is not the product for you. Sadly I found that this clung to any dry patches and made them look more obvious. Not ideal.
The BB Cream wears pretty well throughout the day, I’ve worn it with and without a setting powder. Unsurprisingly it does last longer with the setting powder, without, it lasts about 6/7 hours. Despite the spots in the pictures above, this cream doesn’t cause irritation and it doesn’t clog my skin. It also didn’t make these spots any worse. The cream doesn’t feel at all heavy on the skin, which is great. Especially as I tend to wear this with just a touch of blush, mascara, a lip tint and maybe some brows.
All in all I like this product, I’m aware it’s a wee bit on the expensive side but it’s definitely worth a look. I’ve a few other products from Clarins I’m also testing out, I’ll let you know how I get on. If you want to see how it applies etc, you can see a demonstration in the video below.
