Hooray, I’ve a favourites post for you this month! Yes we’re almost half way through May, but I don’t care. You are getting a favourites! As you may know, I’ve been living out of suitcases before we head off on our travels, so I’ve had to be very picky about what makeup I actually pack. This in turn lead me to this month’s favourite things!
Let’s start with base, my L’Oreal True Match foundation in Rose Ivory. Although I flip flop over this foundation, if I wear it too often it gives me spots, but I love the finish of it and it’s a lovely medium coverage foundation, plus it’s a pretty good colour match for me. So I love it and I will repurchase it in future – this bottle is now empty. I’ve been enjoying it a lot lately. For setting my face I’ve been reaching for the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores setting powder. I was a bit iffy about this as well when I initially tried it but I’ve come to love it. It does a wonderful job of setting the oily t-zone as well as any additional concealer that I apply. All without looking cakey. Perfect. Plus I like having a compact setting powder to take travelling with me!
I’ve yet another rediscovery for you. My Catrice Absolute Matt eyeshadow palette has been my go to crease/ blending out/ nude palette. It has great pigmentation, blends out well and it would give the Urban Decay Basics palette a run for it’s money. Although the black is not quite as black as I would like. It’s more cool toned as well, so maybe more along the lines of Basic 2. It’s coming with me travelling too. A newer addition is the NYX Jumbo pencil in Iced Latte. This is perfect for those days when you’re in a rush or just don’t fancy anything fussy. I swipe it on a few times and then either blend it out with my finger, or a pointed blending brush. I’ve also been setting it with an eyeshadow of similar colour, just lightly dusted over the top. Perfect! Quick, simple and effective. You can see the taupe/bronze swatch of it below.
I’ve only one lip product this month. It’s the Urban Decay lipstick in Manic, it’s one of those your lips but better kind of shades. I like to pop a bit on and blot it out, so it’s not quite as strong. It’s a great everyday shade and it’s comfortable to wear. Win. You can see the swatch above and I’m wearing it in the video below.
For hair I’ve been trying to use up my stash of products and in doing so, I’ve fallen in love with this Frizzi hair oil from Umberto Giannini. It’s lightweight but works wonders for smoothing down my hair. I only take 2 pumps of this and rub it between my hands and then onto the bottom third of my hair. My hair definitely approves. It’s not really a treatment oil, think of it more as something to calm fly away, fluffy hair.
I finally bit the bullet and started using my Spectrum brushes. I have the smoky eye set and contour face set. I love them all. They’re incredibly soft, they work well with all my products, they wash well and retain their shape. Also very little staining at this point. It’s worth noting, that I wouldn’t use the flat top large brush if I wanted a full coverage from my foundation as it’s too soft, so it makes lift difficult for application – I much prefer a dense, stiffer brush for that. Plus there is the fact that they look utterly fabulous! I’m a big fan.
I also love the makeup bag I got from Spectrum, Half Mermaid, Half Unicorn. It is coming with me on my travels too as it’s the perfect size to hold all of my makeup brushes without squishing the heads of them.
So that’s it for my favourites. You can check out the video below if you fancy, I’d love a wee subscribe on my YouTube channel too if you like. What have been your favourites this month? Is there anything you’d recommend checking out? I’m in the market for a new foundation, so all suggestions welcome!
