I’ve been using this primer for the last few months – I finally got around to testing it after actually buying it at the end of 2017 – you can always have a nosy at what else I bought on my Philly trip in my USA Haul post. Back to the matter at hand. The Make Up Forever – ‘Step 1’ Skin Equaliser Smoothing Primer* review!
What They Say
This smoothing primer instantly fills in and blurs imperfections for silky soft skin. This satiny, non-oily formula evens out skin texture by minimising pores, wrinkles and fine lines. Skin looks resurfaced and perfectly smooth for a flawless make up all day long. Our exclusive equaliser complex delivers 3 key actions that is application – make up goes on seamlessly, result – optimised colour and finish, wear – longer staying power.
Application, Wear Time and Finish
I have mostly normal skin, with a slightly oily T-Zone and the odd patch of dryness – I also have sensitive skin, thankfully I had no irritation with this. I apply this down the centre of my face and onto my chin. I’ve quite large pores on my nose and onto my cheeks. I also have quite a few fine lines.
The primer applies wonderfully smoothy, it quite a creamy product, without being overly thick. You don’t need very much at all. I’d recommend starting with a little bit and apply more where needed. You don’t want a thick layer of primer as it may then counteract any good it’s doing!
I use my fingers to apply the primer, and I’ve tested it with a number of different foundations – although all liquid – they all apply well over the top. It does provide a much smoother base and my foundations and CC Creams do look better when I use this primer.
This does seem to allow my foundations to last that wee bit longer. At least everything looks better for longer. There’s less settling into my fine lines too, which is always a good thing!
I do love this primer, however, it’s £26 which is on the higher end of price. So it is definitely more of a luxury primer. On the other hand, you only need a small amount, of course, this will depend on the texture of your skin. You also have to be very realistic in what any primer can actually achieve, it will help smooth things out, however, I could still see the pores on my face when I wore a thicker foundation, less so when I had a CC Cream on. You will still see lumps and bumps. This simply helps to smooth things out a wee bit. I think a combination of good skin care, lifestyle and good makeup help provide a good base, not just a primer. No primer will ever give you a “flawless” base.
I do definitely recommend this primer, so if it’s within your budget and you need a hand smoothing out the texture of your skin, definitely check it out. If you can lay hands on a sample, even better! Then you can test it for yourself and decide if it is right for you.
