January Favourites

January Favourites
It’s almost half and half on the skin care and makeup items this month.  We’ll start with favourite skin care products.  First up is No7’s Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser.  This is a very gentle cleanser, just what my dry, abused skin needs at the minute.  I get a good cleanse from this and it doesn’t leave my skin dry.  I’ve really been enjoying it this month.  Next is Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic.  This toner is something I’ve really been reaching for in January.  It’s refreshing, it helps to add moisture back into my skin.  I’ve been alternating this with my chemical exfoliators and I’ve found it is definitely helping my skin heal up and become less dry.   For moisturiser I discovered Avene’s Skin recovering cream, Calming formula.  I’ve heard a few people rave about this product but I’ve never bought it before, mostly because I’ve been in love with La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo for my skin when it’s broken out.  However, I ran out of it and couldn’t find a replacement, so went with Avene.  I’m so glad I did.  This has helped with any blemishes while still remaining moisturising. I’m really enjoying this product.   The final skin care product is Origins GinZing eye cream.  I use this a few times a week, generally in the morning.  I have recently had issues with dry patches just on the outside of my eyes.  This cream has really helped with this, I did briefly use it twice a day to get rid of the dry patches sooner and it worked really well.  I do get some small bumps under my eyes, so I only use this cream a few days a week.

Now onto the makeup side of things!

For concealer I’ve been loving 17 Stay time concealer for under my eyes.  I put this on after I’ve applied my primer but before my foundation.  This works well to brighten under my eyes, it doesn’t crease and it really does stay very well.  It’s also nice and light so it doesn’t look cakey. For eyes I’ve reached for two eyeliners quite a bit this month.  My Rimmel Scandaleyes pencils in Nude and Taupe.  Nude has helped my tired eyes look less red.  Taupe has been lovely to wear on the outer third of my lower lashes, it adds some definition without being too harsh.  Lovely with most everyday looks.  For eyeshadows there are two that really stood out for me this month.  For bases I’ve enjoyed using 17 Wild Metallic cream shadow in Wild Nude.  This is great by itself, or under other eyeshadows, I’ve worn it under bronze shades and lighter shades.  No7 Wheatsheaf eyeshadow is a shadow that I’ve worn over it quite a few times.  It gives a similar effect to stila’s kitten eyeshadow.

Lastly for makeup we have two blushes.  Sleek’s blush in Pomegranate is quite a vibrant pink.  You use a very light hand when applying this.  Unsurprisingly this has great pigmentation and it really helps to brighten my face.  The second blush is Benefit’s Rockateur.  I’ve loved wearing this over the winter months.  It adds a nice glow to my face without being over the top.  Again I use a light hand with this and gradually build it up.  It definitely warms up my face and I don’t have to wear a separate highlight.

So that’s it for my January Favourites!  You can check out the video below, I’ve swatched some of the products so you can have a closer look.
