Oils of Life Vs Vitamin E Serum in Oil

The Body Shop Oils

Some of you may remember a from a post back at the start of September, I went to an event all about the Oils of Life release.  After a rather wonderful facial massage using the Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil*, I had to pick it up.  I already owned the Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil*, so I thought I’d do a bit of a comparison for you!   To start with there is the difference in cost, the Oils of Life retails for £28 and the Vitamin E retails for £15.  Let’s get the packaging out of the way too, they both come in a glass bottle.   Now I’m aware that these have different end results, but there are definitely some similarities.

There is a light fragrance from the Vitamin E, whereas the Oils of Life has a very strong scent from the various seed oils.  When I use either of them, I will take a few drops onto my finger tips before spreading them over my face – more often than not I will give myself a bit of a massage while I’m at it!  The Vitamin E is a clear liquid and the Oils of Life has a yellow tone to it, it is also more viscous than the Vitamin E.  Neither are sticky though and both absorb relatively quickly.

The Vitamin E Overnight Serum in oil claims

“Wake up to beautiful skin with new Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil, a technical innovation combining the power of a serum and oil to indulge, replenish and recharge skin with moisture overnight.  8h beauty sleep for your skin. Skin feels recharged, replenished and softer.  Skin looks fresher, rested and more radiant.  Our highest concentration of wheatgerm oil.”

My skin definitely feels better hydrated, thanks to the wheatgerm and it does brighten the overall look of my skin.  I initially started using this at night after applying my Vichy Night Detox, but I do sometimes use it in the morning as my moisturiser.  I do prefer it at night though.  It absorbs quickly and doesn’t clog up my skin.

The Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil claims

“By infusing 3 precious seed oils from around the world, known for their revitalising and repairing properties on skin – Black Cumin seed oil from Egypt, Camellia seed oil from China and Rosehip seed oil from Chile – with a powerful blend of essential oils, we created a lightweight daily facial oil to intensely revitalise skin, instantly replenish moisture and revive radiance. Signs of ageing appear visibly reduced. Made from 99% oils of natural origin, this lightweight, quickly-absorbed formula effortlessly melts onto skin leaving a non-sticky, velvety-soft finish.

Potent daily facial oil infused with 3 precious seed oils from around the world to give new life to your skin.  Cold-pressed seed oils to preserve potent properties and ensure the utmost affinity to skin.  Made from 99% oils of natural origin.  Lightweight and quickly-absorbed, non-sticky finish.  Signs of ageing appear reduced – skin looks revitalised and feels more elastic and firmer*”

This does absorb quickly and again my skin feels hydrated.  I don’t see a massive improvement in regards to anti-aging however, my skin looks plumper and just massively more healthy.  I did find my skin got slightly clogged with this when I used it day and night.  So this is a once a day oil.  In fact I’ve taken to using it only a few times a week, as and when my skin needs it.   Another issue with this oil, well my skin, it’s become oilier – particularly my eyelids.  The rest of my face is only slightly oilier, sadly though I can barely keep eyeshadow on my eyelids these days!  I need to pick up another mac painterly paint pot to sort that out.   So although I’ve had some down sides with the Oils of Life, I still prefer it over the Vitamin E Serum in Oil.

The Oils of Life just makes my skin look better and feel better, although it’s a close run race.  I think if you were trying to save I would recommend the Vitamin E Serum in Oil however, if you fancied a bit of a splurge the Oils of Life Revitalising Facial Oils is worth investigating.  I thoroughly enjoy them both!
