I’ve been playing with The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain* for a few weeks, giving it a thorough testing out, which is always a fun project! I got this as part of my goody bag from their 40th Birthday celebrations, it’s something I wouldn’t necessarily have reached for myself, so it was great to get it. I’m very much torn with this product to be honest.
I have the shade Bright Peony 026, which as you can see is a wonderfully, vibrant pink. A perfect shade for Spring / Summer. The formula is nice, it is quite thin in consistency but still slightly creamy. So it’s not uncomfortable to apply to your lips, however it can be quite drying – so make sure you have a lip balm on hand throughout the day.
I know this is a stain, but it stains incredibly quickly. The first time I used it, I made the rookie mistake of applying it directly to my face! I had a pink blotch on my face that a face wipe and a fresh layer of foundation could not hide. So I would recommend applying it to the back of your hand and then dab your stipple brush into it, dab your brush off to one side to take off any excess and only then should you apply it to your face. It can be very intense, so a light hand is needed. I’ve taken to applying this on my cheeks, then using my beauty sponge with any left over foundation on it, all over my face. For my lips, I preferred to apply it to the centre of my lips and then use my finger to smudge it out. This leaves me with a nice sheer pink. You can see below the pre and post application in the photos below. It definitely does add a nice flush of colour for that minimal look.
My only issue? This can be hard to work with, you have to move quickly and you must be precise. For example, once you’ve applied it to your lips and sheered it out, you have to check around your lips immediately, any product that’s outside your lip line will stain very quickly and be very obvious. On my cheeks I found it hard to get the nice wash of colour I wanted, hence always using a touch of foundation over the top!
If you’re a fan of staining products, this is probably right up your street. I also think it’s a great product for the Spring / Summer, this sucker is going to stay in place all day. I’m just always nervous of staining products, especially when I’m half asleep in the morning. If you want to check out how I actually apply it and the amount of staining it leaves behind, you can check out the video below. Have you tried any of this line? Would you recommend any of the other shades? Maybe I’d be more comfortable with them. Let me know 🙂
