I mentioned in my Holiday Reads post that I’ve fallen in love with reading regularly again and I’ve just finished off a book that I really enjoyed. A Game of Ghosts* by John Connolly, it’s the latest in the Charlie Parker detective series and it is awesome. If you’re a fan of detective novels that are a bit scary, with the odd bit of gruesome and lots of twisty bits, this is the read for you. I got through this is a month, which is good going for me as I’ve only been reading a few pages most nights. I’m now going to go back and read all the Charlie Parker books that I’ve missed.
While talking about books, I’ve figured out my Bullet Journal! I’ve moved on quite a bit since my May Favourites on this front. I’ve incorporated a projects section, and a good monthly section with aims, project tasks and courses I want to take. My weekly setup is also much more structured and more useful! I switched to this Rhodia A5 Dot Notebook* at the start of the month and I’m really pleased I did. I love the colour, the high quality pages, the soft cover while still retaining it’s shape and providing protection. I think I’ll do an August set up post & video, just to show what I place where and why.
The last lifestyle favourite is all about Yoga and my renewed love for it, I mean, I finally figured it out. While I was in Ubud, I went to the Radiantly Alive yoga studio on almost a daily basis for about 60% of our trip. I got it, my breath finally connected to my mind, which connected to my body flowing in the right way, plus mindfulness about how my body worked and should feel and back to breath again. With that I picked myself up a rather excellent new yoga mat while in Ubud, it’s a Cuca Yoga Mat and it’s long enough for me, I’m 5ft 9″ and there’s a few inches left when I lie down. More importantly, it’s twice as thick as your average yoga mat. Which means I have no issues with my knees at all! It’s perfect for me, plus I love how colourful it is. I love practicing on it regularly and my body definitely doesn’t complain. I’ve been following along with Yoga With Adriene and her 31 Days of Yoga Revolution. I love her style, she reminds you of your posture and gives useful info to prevent bad form – a bit of a rarity with online yoga teachers. She also has a great sense of humour and does give some mindfulness without being too full on – so if it’s not your thing, it won’t impact your practice. I’m about half way through my 31 days and it makes me very happy to practice almost daily!
I’ve a mostly new beauty favourites to share with you this month. First up is the Sensatia Botanicals Green Tea & Tamarind Facial Cleanser, you likely spotted this in my Bali Skincare Haul. I’ve been using it for a good month now and I love it. It’s gentle on my skin, it’s leaves my face feeling clean but not tight and I must admit to enjoying washing my face with a bubbly cleanser again. There are no soapy badness in this which is rather good!
After I’ve cleansed in the mornings, I use the Elizabeth Grant Vitamin C Day Creme. This is very lightweight, it absorbs well and doesn’t clog up my face at all. It keeps my skin hydrated all day long and sometimes I’ll apply this at night over an oil, just as an extra oomph after the oil. I love how fresh this smells without smelling soapy, it also has a lovely citrus overtone. Another Elizabeth Grant product is the Vitamin C Body Cream. I’ve been using this on a daily basis, I’m trying to keep my skin well hydrated and soft all summer – both in a bid to maintain the little tan that I have and to keep my new tattoo looking fresh. Again it has that light citrusy but slightly creamy scent. It absorbs really quickly and loves my skin feeling well moisturised.
From Skincare to Makeup! I’ve three lipsticks that rock. First is one I’ve had a long time – Mac Cremesheen lipstick in Hot Gossip. This is a great mid-toned pink, it’s actually a really nice slightly cool toned nude for me. I’ve worn it repeatedly in lots of different looks and of course it’s comfortable on the lips. Great colour. Second is this Burt’s Bees lipstick in Blushed Basin. This is an coral/pink/nude. It’s so comfortable on the lips with great pigmentation. It’s a joy to wear and it’s a lovely colour, it’s nice to wear with a minimal makeup. The last lip product is Max Factor Colour Elixir Honey Lacquer* in Indulgent Coral, I was sent this in an influenster box to test out. This is wonderfully comfortable on the lips – although be warned if you have any dry bits on your lips, the lacquer will highlight them. This is a great coral shade, perfect for the summer months and the lacquer is very creamy to wear, never becoming sticky. This is more of a creamy gloss. I’m a fan.
That’s it for this months favourites. As always you can check out the video below for a better look, don’t forget to be a legend and subscribe to my YouTube channel – apologies that we’ve gone backwards on the lighting front, I will soon have my box lights out of storage and recording more fun things soon and taking better lit pictures – I forgot the nightmare of taking photos in natural lighting…..not fun.
